If It Doesn’t Tarnish, It Isn’t Working.
Copper is highly reactive. When raw copper touches water, it undergoes the oligodynamic effect, a natural purifying process recognized in both modern science and ancient Ayurveda.
To cut costs and avoid complaints about dark spots, mass manufacturers spray the inside of their bottles with synthetic lacquer. We refuse to compromise the ritual for convenience. Your Jala bottle will develop a deep, natural patina inside. That is your proof the water is actually touching copper.
How To Care For A Living Material.
The Ayurvedic Tamra Jal Rhythm
Consistency is the foundation of Ayurveda. Practice the ritual daily for 3 months, then take a 1-month pause before resuming.
-
Evening
The Evening Pour
Rinse the bottle, fill it with room-temperature filtered water, and leave it by your bedside overnight, ideally 6–8 hours.
-
On Waking
The Morning Sip
Drink the Tamra Jal on an empty stomach, before coffee, tea or breakfast.
-
After
The Wash
Rinse with plain water and let it air dry completely with the cap off, so no moisture is trapped.
Never Put These In Your Copper Bottle.
Because the copper is unlined and highly reactive, anything other than still water causes an unwanted reaction that can ruin the bottle.
-
Never
No Hot Liquids
Hot water speeds oxidation and can make the bottle dangerously hot to touch. Room temperature or cool water only.
-
Never
No Acidic Additions
No lemon slices, lime, apple cider vinegar or fruit juice. Acid reacts harshly with raw copper.
-
Never
No Carbonation Or Coffee
Sparkling water, coffee, tea and milk are out. The bottle is made only for pure, still water.
Restoring The Interior In 2 Minutes.
When dark spots appear inside, skip dish soap and the dishwasher. Use the traditional lemon and salt method. Tick each step off as you go.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about the bottle, the ritual, and getting it to your door.
Why should I drink from a copper bottle?
Storing water in a copper vessel creates a natural purification process. It is a traditional Ayurvedic practice to balance the three doshas.
Is there any lining inside the bottle?
No. Jala bottles are 100% pure copper inside and out. We never use epoxy, lacquer or synthetic linings on the interior. Because of this, natural oxidation (darkening) will occur inside the bottle, which is the proof that your water is touching real copper.
Can I store any liquid in my Jala bottle?
We recommend only storing plain, still water. Acidic liquids, juice, milk, or carbonated drinks can react with the copper.
How often should I clean the bottle?
A daily rinse with warm water is sufficient. For a deep clean, use lemon and salt weekly to restore the shine.
Will the copper darken over time?
Yes, natural copper oxidizes over time, creating a beautiful dark patina. This is normal and proof of pure copper.
Does the water taste like metal?
When the bottle is cared for properly and cleaned once heavy oxidation builds up, the water should taste clean, crisp and slightly mineralized. A strong metallic taste simply means it is time for a quick 2-minute lemon and salt wash.
Can I put it in the dishwasher?
No. Pure copper is a soft, highly reactive metal, and the heat and harsh detergents of a dishwasher will ruin the bottle. Hand wash with water only, and use the lemon and salt method when you need to remove oxidation.
