How to choose the right candle.
Beeswax, and nothing borrowed
Most candles are paraffin — a petroleum derivative — carried by synthetic fragrance. Beeswax is different in three specific, verifiable ways, and we would rather show you those than sell you a word like “natural.”
No petroleum, no synthetic fragrance, less soot than paraffin when burned correctly. Those are verifiable. That is enough.
Which one is yours
Five rules, and that is all
Most candle problems — tunnelling, uneven burn, excess soot — come from how the candle was lit, not how it was made.
The First Burn Matters Most
Let the wax pool reach the edges of the jar, wall to wall, on the very first light. Stop early and the candle tunnels — burning down the centre and leaving a ring that never melts.
In Practice 2–3 hours, first burn
Trim The Wick Every Time
Five to six millimetres before lighting — not shorter, not longer. Too long makes a large flame and soot; too short drowns in the wax pool. Before every burn, not just the first.
In Practice 5–6mm, every burn
Burn In Sessions
Long enough for a full wax pool, and no more than three to four hours at a stretch. Past four the wick can shift and the wax in the lower jar overheats.
In Practice 2–3 hours at a time
Keep It Still
Drafts from windows, fans, vents, or foot traffic cause uneven burning and burn through wax faster. The flame should sit steady — if it dances constantly, move the candle.
In Practice Level surface, no airflow
Snuff, Do Not Blow
Use a snuffer, or press a spoon gently to the wick. Blowing throws a spike of smoke and scatters wax. Stop using the candle once the wax is within a centimetre of the base.

What the words actually mean
Canadian candle labelling is barely regulated. “Natural,” “pure,” and “non-toxic” are marketing terms, not standards. Here is how to read through them.
Our full ingredient list, sourcing, and material specification are published on the Tatva Verified page.

Care & Keeping
An Agni candle in good condition gives you 45–50 hours. These habits protect that time.
Room temperature, lid on
Store away from direct sunlight — UV degrades essential oils and discolours beeswax.
Keep the lid on between burns to protect the wax surface and hold the scent. Do not store in a cold room or the fridge; beeswax cracks under rapid temperature change.
Emptying the jar
Pour boiling water into the jar. The remaining wax floats to the surface. Let it cool completely, lift out the solidified disc, and discard it.
Wash with mild soap and warm water. The jar is clean and ready.
Eco-resin, made to be kept
Second lives our community across Canada sends us most often: a succulent planter, a small storage jar, a glass for pencils or brushes, and a holder for tea lights.
The white film is a good sign
A dusty, matte surface is bloom — a natural occurrence in beeswax caused by temperature change in storage or transit.
It does not affect burn, scent, or safety. It is visual confirmation the wax is genuine beeswax, and it disappears after the first burn.

Contact SupportAre Agni candles actually non-toxic?
They contain no paraffin, no petroleum derivatives, no synthetic fragrance, and no chemical stabilisers. “Non-toxic” has no regulated definition in Canada, so rather than claim the label we tell you exactly what is and is not in the candle.
How long do they burn?
Roughly 45–50 hours for the standard size, depending on habits. Following the five rules above — full wax pool first, trimmed wick, 2–3 hour sessions, no drafts, snuffer to finish — gets you to the upper end of that range.
Are the Ayurvedic massage candles safe on skin?
Yes, for most people. The dosha candles are formulated with organic coconut oil for skin application. Let the wax pool cool for 2–3 minutes after extinguishing, test a small area first, and avoid broken skin. Check the ingredient list if you have known allergies.
Why does my candle smell faint?
Usually one of two things. The wick is too short and drowning — trim to 5–6mm. Or the room is too large or too draughty for the candle; these are designed for spaces up to about 25–30 square metres. Close a door and the difference is usually immediate.
Do you ship across Canada?
Yes. Every candle ships from our Toronto studio across Canada and to the United States. Orders over $150 qualify for free shipping, and express 1–2 day shipping is available.
